Strawberry Jam and Gooseberry Pie

Hello again! My life has been a crazy mess of driving the boys to their baseball games, watching baseball games, spending way too much on concession stand food, doing an insane amount of laundry, searching for uniforms that I know I just washed, dried and folded, and taking C to early morning weights for football. I can’t seem to find much time for me!

I have been able to accomplish a few things. Yesterday, in the cool early morning hours, I made a batch of strawberry jam. I popped it in the fridge to cool and haven’t been able to put it into jars yet (haven’t even gotten to taste it yet! Bummer!) but hope that it’s really good as it’s my first batch I’ve made on my own. I only got 3 strawberries (so far) from my garden so I bought 6 pints from an Amish stand. They were totally organic too!

I picked a ton of gooseberries a few days ago and plan on making a pie with them, but haven’t had the time yet. I don’t want the berries to go bad, so I may have to freeze them. Baseball is winding down, which always is bittersweet, so my life won’t be near as busy then.

My little garden is coming along. I wasn’t able to build any additional beds like I had planned, so I am trying to plant things in pots. We’ll see how they turn out! E loves the garden the best and has to check on the plants at least once a day, if not more. Who knows, maybe I got a bunch of strawberries but he ate them all! HaHa!

The boys have a good time at the ballgames even if they aren’t playing! There’s always a group of kids to play with! ballgameAnd the days are getting warmer, so it feels more like summer now. No more long sleeves!! We haven’t been to the pool yet, but hope to this week.

The boys are also (ALL 4!) participating in the summer reading program and there are always fun things to do at the library!

Mail has been slow, but that’s because I’m in a writing slump. I think it is because I’m so busy that I sort of fall into bed at night. I DID write a letter yesterday, so hopefully I’m over the hump!

See you all on the flip side!

Robins and Green Grass

I’ve been noticing the signs of Spring everywhere lately! The grass is beginning to get more and more green and the trees are starting to send out little buds. Today as I was going to the car, I even saw some robins! Spring is truly here!

Hip hip hooray! The weather last week was so nice that I really am hating the cold weather that we have been having so far this week. Bleh! Bring back the warm! We love it!

I haven’t been up to anything spectacular. I feel like I’m busy all the time! This is what has happened in the last week:

  • Switched over to Straight Talk and got my first Smartphone
  • Worked
  • C has an asthma attack and had to go to the ER. (He’s fine now, just couldn’t get his breathing under control).
  • E accidentally locked my keys in my car on St. Patrick’s Day and I had to call the locksmith to come out and unlock it. $45 is what it cost!
  • Lost 6.8 lbs in a week!
  • Got 4 letters in the mail but only sent out 1.

That’s been my week!

Triumphant Return

image (1)Hello, hello! I’ve been gone for ages but I’m back and plan on making this blog better. I realized that I really wasn’t using pictures or posting very often, so I plan to change that! Look for more of me in the future! 🙂

This is some daffodils from Spring that I picked at an abandoned house. The lady who used to live there had an amazing flower garden and loved to share her flowers with the neighborhood. I’m sure she wouldn’t have minded sharing them with me.

image (2)  I’ve been writing letters to some of my pen pals. This was several days of writing, just mailed them all at the same time. 🙂 I’m always writing a letter, it’s just my replies aren’t always that quick. I get very busy! lol! But I love getting a letter and it’s very special to open up your mailbox and see a letter waiting for you. There’s also something therapeutic about writing and it connects you to the other person in a different way than email or texting.

image (3) We got a new dog. She’s adorable, tiny and named Lucy. This isn’t the greatest picture of me but a super great picture of Lucy! 😀 Housebreaking a dog isn’t fun but she is learning.

image  Here’s a picture of all of the boys. It’s a little old. I think from this winter when we went to Cold Stone Creamery.

Loving this summer so far! Can’t wait to update you more!

Stupid Sunday

Today was stressful b/c Dash likes to BOTHER his brothers and he’s been a constant pain since he woke up today. We had Cub Scouts and I went even though I didn’t FEEL like it. Well, gues who DIDN’T show up?? EVERYONE else, mainly! Which really pisses me off b/c I made a special trip and drove 40 mins to go to the meeting when I didn’t WANT to! I was even really productive and took my laptop and printer to the meeting and not only printed off coloring sheets about our state flag BUT made fill in the blank worksheets!! At least the boys in my den showed up and I got to do my thing…but it could have waited.

On a good note, I finally have hot water (needed a new water heater) and HEAT. And you’ll never guess what was wrong with my furnace. Done guessing?? The thing couldn’t breathe because there were mud daubber nests built in the flu!!!!! All the guy had to do was to climb on the roof like Santa Claus and take a pipe to the nests, which knocked them down…and then the furnace worked! Crazy!!

Triple Dose of Bronchitis With Brain Pudding

So my brain is pudding today. Woke the boys up to a normal sort of day…except that it wasn’t.

Backstory: I kept the older 2 home yesterday from school b/c over the weekend they were coughing like crazy…like to the point of choking! And Cash has asthma, so I’m constantly watching that. BUT I thought that maybe they were ok enough to go to school today.

Okay, so back to my normal sort of morning. Wake the kids up to get ready for school…and Crash is having an asthma attack. Oh yeah, he has asthma too. And also Bash has epilepsy. Anyways so I’m giving Crash his nebulizer treatment and trying to get the older 2 out the door…and the nebulizer just isn’t cutting it. I was supposed to sub today, but I canceled and called the children’s hospital hotline to see if they think that I need to take Crash into the ER or just give him some OTC cough syrup for his cough (he’s also obtained this crazy cough over the course of the night). I’m also freaking out a little b/c I can’t get ahold of the DR and I’m not sure what I should do. Finally the nurse @ the children’s hospital tells me to take him into the ER.
So away we go. He’s admitted, chest xray’d and find out that he has bronchitis. He has a steroid to take and an antibotic…oh and he can’t go to school tomorrow either.

Fast forward a few hours to approx. 4pm today. I have DR appointments for the older 2 boys. Guess what they also have? Bronchitis! More antibiotics. And no school tomorrow either.

At this point I’ve been to 2 pharmacies, the hospital and the DR office. Right now my kitchen counter looks like I’ve ripped off a pharmacy!!

And guess what? I’ve gotta wake up @ 4am and give Crash his meds. I’m REALLY becoming exhausted with all of the sickness that I’m having to tend to since August. It’s really wearing me down. Sigh.

Important phone calls!

This story was reported to me by Cash this morning and it’s just too funny. So apparently Bash was playing with an old flip phone of mine and one of the boys took it from him. This is the conversations that followed:

Bash: Give me my phone back!

Brother: No!

Bash: Give it to me!! I need to CALL SOMEBODY!!

And what was really funny was what Cash said at the end of this story after he got done telling me. He said “Pfft. Like HE has anyone to call!”. HAHAHA!!

The Ash Brothers Introduced

I have 4 boys and obviously don’t want to use their real names. Someday they may want a job. Haha! So I let them choose their “handles”! We decided that they would all rhyme and here they are: Cash–9 year old. Dash–8 year old. Crash-6 year old. Bash–3 year old. Actually he didn’t decide, I did. He wanted Poop. I really couldn’t handle refering to my child as Poop…and I’m sure neither could you. So, from now on my kids aka the Ash Brothers aka The Guys have these handles.
